Thesius is an online platform for research and science communication. The name Thesius is derived from the term thesis , which is used in an academic context to designate a thesis to obtain the academic degree. The platform was founded by Michael Grupp, Jennifer Antomo and Dennis Albert, doctoral students from Johannes Gutenberg University (Mainz), comparable to the platforms Index to theses (England) and theses.fr (France).

Thesius was acquired in 2017 by the personnel service provider Persona Service , which has been operating the research portal since then.

Functions

In addition to ongoing doctoral projects, which are recorded by registering doctoral students, Thesius contains a database of most of the completed and published dissertations in Germany, sorted by subject area. In addition to bibliographical information, the database also contains metadata on the work and personal or professional information on the authors. When researching, Thesius uses a semantic search technique ( index search ) which, in contrast to the purely character matching string search, works faster and more precisely.

An online platform in the sense of science communication 2.0 has been discussed in the academic world since the advent of social media. More transparent science communication has been the subject of discussion in Germany, especially since the plagiarism scandals, so a platform like Thesius has often been suggested.
