Thiasos
The term Thiasos (ancient Greek θίασος) denotes in the ancient Greek and Roman religions the union of people to worship a god. Usually this means a religious association. Various inscriptions on this subject have survived, especially from the Hellenistic and Roman imperial periods . Thiasos was next to Orgeones , collegium and other terms one of several possible names for such associations. In pre-Hellenistic times, Thiasos was mostly involved in the cult of the god Dionysus and similar gods. It is unclear whether these associations only existed for a short time or were longer-term institutions. In a figurative sense, the entourage of a god is also referred to as thiasos.
