Thierry Caby (born April 1, 1963 in Cysoing ) is a former French football goalkeeper .

Career

Caby was added to the squad for third division Roubaix Football from his home region in northern France in 1982. There he became the first goalkeeper and as such he was promoted to the second division in 1983. Although the club could not keep in the league, but Caby showed such good performance despite the relegation that he was signed for the new season 1984/85 by the second division CFC Quimper , where he had to assert himself in goal against Alain Wantz . Wantz performed slightly better, but got injured after a while and therefore had to leave the role of goalkeeper to Caby. However, this lost his role again and did not play a single second division game during the 1986/87 season because he had got another rival in goal in Richard Ruffier . Both left the club in 1987, which is why Caby was allowed to take the place in goal for some time. By signing Michel Ettorre in 1988, the goalkeeper was again without use in the following season.

Accordingly, he decided in 1989 to move to US Valenciennes-Anzin . Behind the former French national goalkeeper Jean-Pierre Tempet , Caby was occasionally the substitute goalkeeper, but also often played for the reserve team. After Tempet's career ended in 1990, it was Michel Pageaud who replaced him. Because Caby only played five league games in two years and there was no prospect of a regular place, he moved to USL Dunkerque , also second-rate, in 1991 , where he took on the role of substitute keeper again behind Nicolas Sachy . In 1993 he ended his career at the age of 30 and retired completely from professional football.
