history
Until 2007
The T series was introduced by IBM in 2000 as part of the ThinkPad brand, which has existed since 1992 . The business notebooks were aimed primarily at users who had to work in different environments (e.g. at home, in the office and on the move). The T-series models were optimized for a good ratio of speed and mobility. Despite the 14-inch monitor - a common size for desktop monitors at the time - the weight should be kept as low as possible. For this reason, too, there were interchangeable modules such as a DVD player , a CD drive or a number pad .
The first model in the ThinkPad T series was the T20 notebook. With a screen size of 14 inches, the weight - depending on the hardware configuration - was between 2.1 and 2.4 kilograms. The ThinkPad T21 followed in October 2000, which compared to the T20 had a more powerful processor , higher resolution and a 32 GB hard drive. The following models T22 and T23 contained further small improvements. In May 2002 the ThinkPad T30 was released, which was equipped with an LCD display with a resolution of 1400 × 1050, 1 GB RAM and a 60 GB hard drive. The next model T40p (p stands for performance ) was delivered with up to 2 GB of RAM. Other models of the T4x series were T41, T41p, T42 and T42p.
The last T-Series notebooks produced by IBM were the T43 and T43p models introduced in April 2005. They received cheaper DDR2 RAM and were the first ThinkPads that can be operated with Windows 8.x and Windows 10 . In December 2004 it was announced that Lenovo would take over the PC division from IBM and thus also the ThinkPad. Up to this point in time, the ThinkPads were produced by the Lenovo competitor Great Wall Technology . The ThinkPads T60 and T60p released in February 2006 were already developed and produced by Lenovo, but were still marked with the IBM logo. It was only with the introduction of the T61 and T61p models in May 2007 that the logo was gradually replaced by the ThinkPad logo.

Since 2008
With the introduction of the ThinkPads T400 and T500 in July 2008, the naming conventions of the T-Series notebooks were changed for the first time. Then there are two series for 14-inch devices (T4xx) and 15-inch devices (T5xx). With the change to the next generation of processors in spring 2020, the name will be changed again. The devices are simply called T14 or T15, the successive generations are counted up starting with GEN1, as with the X-Series.
The earlier performance models (Txxp) were largely integrated into Lenovo's ThinkPad W series. Only the models T440, T460, T470 and T540 were still available as performance variants (T440p, T460p, T470p and T540p). Lighter and flatter Slim versions (Txxxs) have also been available since 2008 . The only T-series ultrabook is the T430u, released in 2012.
The T4xx and T5xx series are further developed and marketed as T14 and T15 GENx.
