Thomas Alexander Scott

Thomas Alexander Scott (born December 28, 1823 in Fort Loudoun , Franklin County , Pennsylvania , † May 21, 1883 in Darby , Pennsylvania) was Deputy Secretary of War in the American Civil War and one of the most prominent people who worked in the public railroad in the United States .

Scott discovered the skills of the young Andrew Carnegie and thus contributed to his success. Shortly before his death, he donated a chair in mathematics to the University of Pennsylvania .

Scott died on May 21, 1883 at his Woodburn estate near Darby, Delaware County .
