Thomas Edward Hope

Thomas Edward Hope (born 1923 in Chorley , Lancashire , † 1987 in Leeds ) was a British Romance studies and linguist .

life and work

Hope attended Balliol College in Oxford and was after decorated military service from 1948 to 1952 assistant to Stephen Ullmann in Glasgow . He completed his habilitation in 1969 in Glasgow with Stephen Ullmann with a Ph.D. Dissertation Inter-Romance loan-words. The reciprocal influences between French and Italian in vocabulary from 1100 to 1900 (published ud T. Lexical borrowing in the romance languages. A critical study of Italianisms in French and Gallicisms in Italian from 1100-1900 , 2 vols., Oxford 1971) and was 1969 professor at the University of Leeds .
