Thomas Göddertz (born November 26, 1960 in Bottrop ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2017 .

Life

Thomas Göddertz grew up in Bottrop. His father, a trained businessman, worked as a miner, his mother was a saleswoman in a grocery store.

After completing secondary school, Thomas Göddertz initially completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at Bergbau AG Niederrhein / RAG. He then worked in the human resources department at the Lohberg colliery for a year. In 1983 Thomas Göddertz acquired the technical college entrance qualification at the technical college for economics in Bottrop. In the same year he took up a degree in economics with a major in business administration at the University of Essen. He graduated with a diploma in June 1992.

From 1992 and until his election to the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament in 2017, Thomas Göddertz worked in the headquarters of a large retail group in Essen, initially in the organization department, then in the procurement logistics department.

Thomas Göddertz is a board member of the Bottrop local association of the German Child Protection Association, chairman of the circle of friends for the promotion of town twinning of the city of Bottrop and a member of the AWO , the IGBCE , the Marketing for Bottrop Association and the AmBOTioniert association.

Thomas Göddertz joined the SPD in 1976 and held various party offices at the local level. Since 1994 he has been a member of the board of the SPD local association Bottrop-Stadtwald. In 2001 he took over the chairmanship of the local association. Since 2004 he has been a member of the board of directors of the SPD Bottrop, and since 2009 deputy chairman of the SPD Bottrop.

In 2004 Thomas Göddertz was elected to the City Council of Bottrop for the first time. Since 2012 he has been chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. As part of his council work, Thomas Göddertz is deputy chairman of the main finance and complaints committee, member of the committee for urban planning and environmental protection and member of the economic development and property committee.

In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 , Thomas Göddertz was elected as a direct candidate for the state parliament in the Bottrop constituency. He won the constituency with 40.7 percent of the first votes. In the state parliament he is a full member of the committee for homeland, communal affairs, building and housing, the budget and finance committee, the interior committee and the mining safety subcommittee.
