Thomas J. Huelsmann

Thomas J. "Tom" Huelsmann (* 1945 ) is an American trombonist and music teacher.

Huelsmann studied music and music education at St. Thomas College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He was bass trombonist with the St. Paul Civic Orchestra , the Minneapolis Civic Orchestra and the Lake Como Pops Orchestra . He served 45 years as a music teacher in Washington County and was director of the bands at Park High School in Cottage Grove from 1979 to 2001 . He also taught wind instruments at the University of St. Thomas . Since his retirement he has been teaching trombone and low brass instruments privately.

Huelsmann has been playing Dixieland since he was a student. He was a member of The Blue Diamonds Jazz Band and plays in the Red Rock Swing Band , the Band of Praise and the Minneapolis Trombone Choir . He also wrote arrangements for wind band. His arrangement of Alan Hovhaness ' Sharagan and Fugue was released by API Music.
