Thomas Mettler

Thomas Mettler (* 1958 in Lucerne , Switzerland ) is a freelance dancer , actor and director in the field of contemporary dance .

Life

Trained at Marcel Marceau's school in Paris, Mettler has been working internationally in dance and theater for 30 years. He created numerous own full-length pieces and projects in which dance and theater were always combined with improvisation .

His artistic creations as well as his simultaneous teaching activity for 24 years, four years of which as main teacher at professional drama and dance schools in London and Paris, as well as over 100 intensive workshops brought him to France, England, Italy, Colombia, Germany, USA, Greece, Spain , India, Portugal and Switzerland.

With the founding of "6 Men Dance - a night of improv" he implemented the long-standing dream of a dance, physical theater and improvisation collective, to which he invited world-leading dancers and dance improvisers: Adam Benjamin (UK), Rick Nodine (USA, UK), Jordi Cortés Molina (E), Christian Panouillot (FR), Chris Aiken (USA). Her “improv nights” were performed in London at the “the place” theater, in Bern at “friends from out of town” and in Freiburg im Breisgau on “17. International Dance Festival ”.

In 2006 he brought together 17 dancers and actors from 7 nations for a large international physical theater project in Bern at the end of 2006: “About Life & Death”.

In 2007 a collaboration or choreography for the leading English integrated dance company "StopGap" in London followed. In 2008 he created a duet with the blind dancer Sylvie Raphoz: “… à voir”. In 2009 the collaboration and development of a duet "Incontro" with Astad Deboo began.

In 2010 Thomas Mettler developed the piece “The Sweet Poison LOVE” with the contemporary dance company “About Men and Women” under his direction.

In 2013 his first dance film “autumn leaves” was released, in which he directed and acted, and which was shot in his adopted home, Ticino.

In 2015 he created the full-length physical theater piece “Some Men Must Die” for the “GOGOL Fest 15” festival in Kiev with 14 dancers and actors from Ukraine, England and Switzerland as well as three live musicians from Ukraine. The piece was reworked in 2016 at the "KMATOS Fest 2016" festival with eleven dancers / actors.

In May 2018, work began on the full-length feature film "Some Men Must Die" directed by Mettlers. The film is based on the play of the same name from 2015 and is shot in Ukraine. The subject of the film is the Ukraine conflict since 2014.
