Thomas Schmidt (* 1961 in Potsdam ) is a local politician , cook and member of the SPD . He has been the mayor of the city of Teltow since 2002 .

Thomas Schmidt learned the trade of cook after completing his school education. From 1985 to 1986 he served in the GDR in the National People's Army as a construction soldier , so he refused to use the weapon. After the political change, Schmidt became a member of the Teltow city ​​council in 1990 . From 1994 to 2002 he was a member of the district council of the Potsdam-Mittelmark district . He was also chairman of the youth welfare committee .

In 2002 Schmidt was elected mayor of Teltow as a candidate of the SPD. On September 27, 2009, he was re-elected with 53.15 percent of all votes in the first ballot.

Thomas Schmidt is a member of the federal and state executive boards of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund .
