Thomas Singer (Veterinarian)

Thomas Singer (* 1960 in Schwandorf ) is a German veterinarian and expert on drug safety and animal welfare in the pharmaceutical industry.

Career

Singer studied veterinary sciences from 1983 to 1988 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1989 as Dr. med. vet. In 1994 he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) , and in the same year he became a veterinarian specializing in laboratory and basic medicine . In 1996 he became a specialist veterinarian for pharmacology and toxicology , two years later a specialist veterinarian for animal welfare.

In 2015 he completed his habilitation in pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Basel . In 2018 he became Professor of Toxicology at the University of Basel.

Areas of activity in the pharmaceutical industry

After holding various positions at Novartis and Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma KG , Singer moved to F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG in Basel in 2002 . This function enables drug development, especially in the areas of toxicology, pathology, metabolism, pharmacokinetics, clinical pharmacology, bioanalytics, drug safety and biomarkers. Singer is also the company's animal welfare officer. He has been a member of the supervisory board of Roche Diagnostik GmbH since 2013 and a consultant to the Chinese Society of Toxicology since 2016 .
