Sir Thomas Umfraville (also Umfreville ) († May 21, 1387 ) was an English nobleman.

Thomas Umfraville came from the Umfraville family . He was the youngest son of Robert de Umfraville, 8th Earl of Angus and his second wife Eleanor. In 1375 his older half-brother Gilbert de Umfraville put him and his older brother Robert together as heirs of his estates in Redesdale in Northumberland . Since Robert died childless a little later, Thomas inherited all of Redesdale, Harbottle Castle and the Otterburn estate after the death of his half-brother in 1381 . The income from these possessions was not enough for him to lead a befitting life as a crown vassal , and he was never invited to parliament as a baron . Later he was apparently able to acquire the lands of the Barony of Kyme in Lincolnshire . These were an inheritance from his father's first wife, and according to the agreement made with his half-brother in 1375, he was not entitled to them.

Umfraville had married Joan Roddam , a daughter of Adam Roddam . With her he had two sons:

His heir became his eldest son, Thomas, but his two sons both rose socially. Thomas was elected to the English Parliament as Knight of the Shire for Northumberland, while the younger son Robert was accepted into the Order of the Garter as a successful military man .
