Award and history of the title

The title was created on June 24, 1295 by King Edward I of England for the English nobleman Philip Kyme , when he was appointed to the English Parliament by Writ of Summons .

With the childless death of his son, the 2nd Baron , the title fell in 1338 to Gilbert de Umfraville, titular Earl of Angus and 3rd Baron Umfraville . When his childless death in 1381, his fortune and, according to today's legal opinion, the right to the title fell to his niece (the daughter of his sister Elizabeth) Eleanor de Barroden, widow of Sir Henry Tailboy († 1369). However, they and their descendants did not claim or use the title and, in particular, were not invited to parliament as a peer due to their claim . The eldest son of her great-great-great-grandson, the de iure 9th Baron Kyme, Sir Gilbert Tailboys (around 1497-1530), was raised in 1529 to Baron Tailboys , of Kyme. Since his father survived him, his son, the 2nd Baron Tailboys, combined this title with the claim to that of the 10th Baron Kyme. With the death of his sister, the 4th Baroness Tailboys and wife of Ambrose Dudley, 3rd Earl of Warwick on September 21, 1538, the Barony Tailboys expired and the claim to the Barony Kyme fell to their uncle Rev. William Tailboys, Vicar of Gantby in Lincolnshire, as de iure 13th Baron Kyme. When he died childless in the fall of 1577, the claim to the title in Abeyance fell between his sisters and their heirs and has been suspended to this day.
