The former Protestant Klarenbach Chapel, today St. Thomas Church

The Thomaskirche (formerly Evangelical Klarenbach Chapel) at Aschaffenburger Straße 8 in Düsseldorf-Reisholz was built in 1957/1958 according to plans by Walter Köngeter and Ernst Petersen . At the inauguration it was named after Adolf Klarenbach , the first evangelical martyr in the Rhineland. It served the community work in District II (Reisholz) of the Evangelical Church Community Düsseldorf-Holthausen. In 1963/1964 a community center was added and conversions were carried out. In 1996 the Klarenbach chapel, the rectory and the community center were entered in the monuments list of the city of Düsseldorf.

In 2007, the old Catholic community in Düsseldorf, which had been holding services in the chapel since 2004, bought the Klarenbach chapel with the community room and parsonage (without the community center). After the interior of the church had been redesigned, the church was consecrated under the new name Thomaskirche in 2008 by Bishop Joachim Vobbe .

Next to the chapel there are parish rooms and a parish hall around an inner courtyard that is open to the south. The chapel was built on a rectangular floor plan. Instead of the usual orientation of a sacred space to the east, the chapel was laid out in the north-south axis. A concrete glass window by EO Köpke decorates the west wall on the slightly raised altar zone. The courtyard side of the chapel received a grid glass wall with a portal. On the south-east side there is a tower that is structured by lamellas.
