Walter Köngeter

Walter Köngeter (born February 6, 1906 in Düsseldorf ; † May 23, 1969 there ) was a German architect , town planner and university professor .

Career and occupation

Walter Köngeter was the son of the industrial manager and DVP - Reichstag Eugen Köngeter . He studied architecture at the Technical University of Stuttgart with Paul Bonatz and Paul Schmitthenner , interrupted by a semester at the Technical University of Danzig . After the main diploma examination in 1930, his doctorate as Dr.-Ing. In 1931 with an urban development work on Paris and a study visit to the United States , he worked for a short time as an assistant to Paul Bonatz and from 1935 as an architect in his native city of Düsseldorf. He worked there with the architect Ernst Petersen , a son-in-law of the entrepreneur Hugo Henkel , from the mid-1930s. Most of Koengeter's buildings were later built in collaboration with Petersen, many on behalf of the Henkel company . After the Second World War , Köngeter was an alderman in Düsseldorf and head of the local building department. In October 1947 he was appointed associate professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , and in 1952 he was appointed full professor of architecture.
