Walk in Elbroich Park

Park Elbroich , located in the south of Düsseldorf in the Holthausen district , is one of the smaller parks in Düsseldorf with its 14.6 hectares. Because of its extensive stock of old trees, it is still one of the most interesting parks in Düsseldorf. The trees set impressive focal points in the park and make it appear larger than it is. They were planted from the 12th century by the owners of the moated castle , which, after being drained in 1760, formed the basic structural substance of today 's Elbroich Castle . Already in 1189 there was a knight's seat at this point, which was sold by the Barbarossa adjutant Arnold von Tyvern to Count Engelbert I. von Berg . The last private owner was the founder of the Gerresheimer Glashütte Ferdinand Heye , which is why the park was previously called Heye-Park . In the center of the park there is a geriatric clinic and Elbroich Castle, which today serves as a center for various management and insurance companies.

The park's leisure facilities include a water playground with an Archimedean screw , a playground with a trapezoidal net for climbing, a skate hall, a music pavilion, and a little-used play and sunbathing area.

There are a total of 40 different tree species in Elbroichpark, including linden , pine , arborvitae , red beech , pseudo acacia , poplar , oak , hornbeam and ash .

The trees are distributed over four forest parcels that frame the park, beech in the northwest, pine in the southwest, pseudo acacia, poplar and linden in the southeast and east, and oak, hornbeam and ash in the northeast and east. Three avenues of trees lead through the park, one avenue of lime trees from the north to the castle, another younger avenue of linden trees from north to south, and an avenue of tree of life from west to east.
