Elbroich Castle is a former manor in the Holthausen district of Düsseldorf , which is now used as an office location for companies in the service and consulting sector. The palace park is open to the public.

history

The origins of Elbroich Castle can no longer be researched, as the Elbroich Archive was almost completely destroyed by the effects of the Second World War . Around 1189 the Lords of Teveren sold the town of Düsseldorf and some goods to the Counts of Berg , including the Allod Elbroich. In the 15th century the property came to the Lords of Eller . On April 10, 1589, Georg von Neuhoff bought Elbroich for 6500 thalers. Elbroich was rebuilt around 1600, largely in the form in which it still exists today. In 1679 the castle passed to the Lords of Horst by marriage . In 1748 some extensions and modifications were made. The year on the gate reminds of this time. When Nicolas de Pigage had the gardens of Benrath Palace laid out in 1760 , the Elbroich'sche Moat fell dry as the Itterbach that fed it was diverted to run the water features of the new electoral palace. The park was expanded in the 19th century.

In 1852, Katharina Trinkaus, the mother of the banker Christian Gottfried Trinkaus, bought Elbroich, which at that time was still a manor and enabled the owner to participate as a member of the “Prussian District and State Parliaments”. After that, the castle came into the possession of the Heye family, the founders of the Gerresheimer Glashütte, through marriage . In 1895 Hermann Heye bought more land in the vicinity and entered the real estate business. From this, Industrieterrains Düsseldorf-Reisholz AG (IDR) , now in municipal ownership, developed .
