history

Thompson & Morgan's story began in a small garden behind a bakery in Ipswich . The founder William Thompson's specialty was the cultivation of rare and unusual plants, the seeds of which he received from overseas. William later began publishing The English Flower Garden magazine. The first catalog appeared in 1855.

In 1896, the company's founder was awarded the Victorian Medal of Honor by the Royal Horticultural Society . William Thompson died in 1903 at the age of 80. His long-standing business partner John Morgan cooperated with Joseph Sangster from 1913, who added another 4,000 to the 2,000 plant names in the Thompson & Morgan catalog.

Thompson & Morgan has operated as a limited company since 1939 . In 1973 the company expanded and expanded its distribution center in Poplar Lane in Ipswich. Thompson & Morgan Limited was sold to a private entrepreneur in May 2002.
