The Thomson Road Grand Prix circuit was a street circuit in the district Upper Thomson in Singapore . From 1961 to 1973 car and motorcycle races were held there. The route was relatively unsafe because it was peppered with street lights, bus stops and manhole covers. It was driven clockwise. The lap record was set by Leo Geoghegan with 1: 54.9. The replacement is the Marina Bay Street Circuit , on which a race called the Singapore Grand Prix as part of Formula 1 has been held since 2008 .
