Thor (ship, 1930)

The coast guard ship Thor (in Icelandic spelling: Þór ), also known as Mid Þór (Mittlere Thor) or Thor II , was a ship of the Icelandic Coast Guard . The namesake Thor is a god of Norse mythology .

history

The Thor was bought in Germany in 1930 and replaced the first Thor that was stranded in 1929 . The Thor II was built as a trawler in 1922. In 1946 the ship was sold.

The Icelandic Coast Guard already operated four ships called Thór : The first Thor existed from 1920, followed by the ship described here. The third ship of the same name was in service from 1951 and finally the fourth Thor followed from 2011.
