Thorsten Passfeld

Thorsten Passfeld (* 1975 in Dinslaken ) is a contemporary German painter, sculptor, set designer, animator, author and musician.

Life

Thorsten Passfeld studied philosophy and fine arts in Hamburg . He first became known through his participation in improvisation evenings in the Hamburg literature and poetry slam scene. He founded Die Materialschlacht in 1995 with Viktor Marek , organized the program Die Profis with Jürgen Noltensmeier and from 1997 to 1999 took part in the Liv Ullmann Show, a monthly literature show and performance, as well as regularly in events of the Macht eV .

This was followed by exhibitions of his aggressively realistic pictures, various cartoons as well as stage sets, etc. a. for Schorsch Cameroon . Passfeld also worked on music videos, including a. He cooperated with the musician Tex ( Fire for the World, 1998) and Nils Kopagh ( Do the Devil, 2007). In the course of participating in Art Basel Miami Beach - Art Positions in 2006, the collaboration with the Viennese gallery owner Ernst Hilger began. After the contribution Torpedos der Doofheit , a life-size, rocket-throwing sculpture made of wood, which was exhibited at the exhibition stand of the Galerie Ernst Hilger at Art Cologne 2007, this seems to have ended.

Under the title Come now all in, please and in 2009 under the title The Power of Trauer , Thorsten Passfeld exhibited relief-like, detailed pictures in 2007 in the Galerie Feinkunst Krüger in Hamburg , mainly made of plywood . For the exhibition on the occasion of the gallery's tenth anniversary, Passfeld showed a larger sculpture.

A first major exhibition with Passfeld's woodworks took place in Hamburg in the summer of 2010. Under the title You couldn't be, Liebling , the Levy gallery exhibited wall objects, sculptures and installations from the years 2000 to 2010. In winter 2010, Levy showed another exhibition in Berlin under the title Warm, Gross, Gut with many new works. The catalog Ich bin zurück! Art projects

In 2002 Passfeld's first large temporary work in public space was created, the 60 m² wooden house in Hamburg's St. Pauli district , which he cobbled together from found wood. The demolition is part of the work. Thorsten Passfeld has kept this concept for all of his “houses” so far.

In 2004 he built the 130 m² Hoftheater Vier Linden in the Hamburg district of St. Georg , in which the Deutsches Schauspielhaus theater program was staged for ten days, and in 2005 the 15 m² harbor pub Zum Falschen Freund in Hamburg's Hafencity , which was operated for a month . In 2006, as part of sculpture @ CityNord, the station toilet was created for the last beginning . In the same year, as part of the Senseo Art Initiative, he created the hall installation Rest Home for the guilty city dwellers .

At the end of 2006 Thorsten Passfeld took part in Art Basel Miami Beach and exhibited the work Playing with the Big , utility furniture and a relief, which the fair management described as "deliberately trashy-poetic" as part of the newcomer event Art Positions .

In the summer of 2007, as part of the IBA Art and Culture Summer, the largest “house” in Passfeld to date was built in the Hamburg district of Wilhelmsburg . After its completion, the 150 m² Church of Good Will was available for various religious communities, artists, bands and the inhabitants of the multicultural district for activities.

In the summer of 2009, Passfeld built a copy of the Oberhafenkantine in the Port of Hamburg . The copy is to travel around the world in containers.

Passfeld lives and works in Hamburg. He is a member of the artist community SKAM eV and acts as a singer in the band Heimweg .
