Thrust fin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Thrust Fin is a device used in shipping .

Developed by Hyundai Heavy Industries , the fin is used to reduce the fuel consumption of ships. The fin is attached horizontally to the front of the rudder of a ship. It is intended to improve the flow through the ship's propeller and thus reduce the power required at the same speed.

The first ship to be equipped with this fin was the Kuala Lumpur Express , an 8,600 TEU container ship in the Colombo Express class operated by Hapag-Lloyd . The fuel savings should be up to 6%.
