Thunderbolt on Coney Island ( Brooklyn , New York , USA ) was a wooden roller coaster designed by John A. Miller . It was opened in 1925. The railway was closed in 1982, but remained in place until the end of 2000.
On November 17, 2000, the New York City Council began to tear down the now very dilapidated roller coaster against the will of the owner. A subsequent initiated federal jury process revealed in 2003 that the demolition had been unlawful and the municipality is the trespass - the equivalent of the German trespassing - was guilty.
The track was built over a house that was built in 1895 as the Kensington Hotel . This house and thus also the railway are in the film Der Stadtneurotiker (1977) by and with Woody Allen the setting as the childhood home of the character Alvy Singer, who is played by Woody Allen.
