Tible, played by Lluís Pujals

The Tible (Catalan el tible , dt. Diskantschalmei ) is a typical Catalan woodwind instrument with a double reed . Similar to the tenora, it is derived from the medieval Xeremia (dt .: shawm ), specifically the Xeremia tible .

construction

The tible is significantly smaller than the tenora and, in contrast to this, is made entirely from the wood of the jew's thorn ( Ziziphus jujuba or jujube ). It is about 55 cm long and consists of three parts: the upper and middle parts carry the flap system; there are four holes on the lower, distal part.

Musical properties and uses

The tible is tuned in F and has a pitch range of 2.5 octaves from a 0 to e 3 (sound a fourth higher). Its tone is a bit garish. It is used as an instrument in the cobla , the sardana chapel, in Catalonia, where it often has musical dialogues with the tenora .
