Tibloc

Tibloc

The Tibloc is an ascender from the French company Petzl that locks in one direction.

functionality

The rope is inserted into the Tibloc and fixed in it with a carabiner. Due to the shape of the recesses for the carabiner, it is pressed down against the rope when pulled. This allows the barbed-shaped, downward-pointing metal teeth on the inside of the tibloc to grip the rope and dig into the sheath of the rope. When pulling upwards - also due to the shape of the recesses - the teeth and the carabiner are pulled away from the rope so that the rope can pass through.

There are metal teeth inside

application

The Tibloc can in many cases replace the Prusik knot or alternatives such as the FB cross clamp , e.g. B. when climbing the fixed rope or as a backstop for pulley blocks.

In addition, the Tibloc enables a secure form of climbing together on a running rope. The Tibloc prevents a fall transfer from the second climber to the lead climber. However, this technique is usually only recommended for experienced climbers.
