Crucible valve
A puncture needle connected to a check valve is described as a crucible valve . It is used in the emergency medical therapy of life-threatening tension pneumothorax .
The application is usually made by puncture in the typical position of a Monaldi drainage .
In a narrower sense, a crucible valve is understood to mean the provisional use of a puncture needle with a slotted finger cot, as described by the German surgeon Max Tiegel (1877–1952). Although similar temporary solutions are still in use today, a number of prefabricated crucible valves are available, especially in the rescue service.
