The Rosegg zoo in the market town of Rosegg is the largest zoo in the Austrian state of Carinthia .

Animal park

The zoo, which initially served as a princely hunting ground, was founded by Peter Ritter von Bohr , who from 1830 had the zoo wall built around the wooded slopes of a hilltop castle. This wall still represents the boundary of the zoo today. As early as 1833, the rulership of Rosegg passed to Prince Johann von Liechtenstein . The Rosegg castle ruins in the zoo, the zoo itself and the nearby Rosegg Castle are still owned by his descendants. The Rosegg zoo has been open to the public since 1970.

Around 400 animals from 35 species live in the park, spread over a large deer meadow, an exotic and domestic animal area and the historic zoo around the wooded mountain. With around 80,000 visitors annually, it is the most popular tourist destination in Rosegg. There is also a buffet, a small animal zoo and a children's playground.
