The Tierstein Tunnel is a 654 m long railway tunnel on the Stuttgart – Tuttlingen line . It is located east of the Tierstein homestead in the Baden-Württemberg community of Dietingen and therefore bears his name.

The straight tunnel, which runs between the route kilometers 120.028 and 120.682, has a track that can be driven at 90 km / h.

history

The structure was capitalized in 1927 .

The section between Talhausen and Rottweil was opened on July 23, 1868. In 1979, pedestrians passing the tunnel alerted the railway police when they heard noises: A musician had played the saxophone in a niche in the tunnel.

In 2008, the building was rated 2 ("Major damage to the building part which does not affect safety. Measures for preventive maintenance are to be checked for their economic viability for long and medium-term (longer than 18 years) building parts."), Condition rating 3 in 2014 and 2017 ("Extensive damage to the structural part, which does not affect the stability. Repair is still possible, its profitability must be checked").

Around 2014, the tunnel was used daily by 14 long-distance passenger trains, 35 local rail passenger trains as well as 19 freight and 6 other trains.

A three-year renovation of the portals and the masonry was planned from 2015.
