Tigranes III.
Tigranes III. was king of Armenia from 20 BC Until 8 BC He was the son of Artavasdes II and brother of Artaxias II.
Tacitus reports that around 20 BC In a message to the Roman Emperor Augustus, the Armenians had expressed their unwillingness to keep Artaxias II as king and demanded that his brother Tigranes III. (then in Roman custody in Alexandria , Egypt ). Augustus agreed and sent a small army under the orders of Tiberius to depose Artaxias II. Before they arrived, however, Artaxias II had been murdered by some of his other relatives, and the Romans enthroned Tigranes III. unchallenged. His successors were his son Tigranes IV and his half-sister Erato .
