Timothy Reckart

Timothy Reckart (* in Arizona ) is an American director and animator.

Life

Reckart grew up in Arizona. He studied history and literature at Harvard College from 2005 to 2009 and graduated with a bachelor's degree. This was followed by a master’s degree in animation directing at the National Film and Television School near London from 2010 to 2012 . He specialized in puppet animation, but also worked in digital animation in 2D, pixilation and animation using collage techniques. As part of an internship during his studies, Reckart worked on advertising films in stop-motion in the Bent Image Lab.

He made his graduation film Head Over Heels in a puppet animation in stop-motion . It is about a married couple who have literally drifted apart over the years, but now start an attempt to get together again. This proves difficult, since he lives on the floor while she lives on the ceiling. Head Over Heels premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and won the jury award at the Brazilian film festival Anima Mundi and an Annie Award for Best Student Film in 2013 . The film was in 2013 for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film nomination.

Reckart lives in Brooklyn, New York. In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
