The Ting Jiang ( Chinese 汀江 , Pinyin Tíng Jiāng - "Ting River") is a river in the southeast Chinese provinces of Fujian and Guangdong . It rises in the Wuyi Mountains in southwest Fujian and then flows through the towns of Changting , Hetian and Shanghang . At Sanhe it flows together with the Mei Jiang and the Meitan He and forms the Han Jiang .
The Ting Jiang has a length of 285 kilometers and an area of influence of 9022 square kilometers. With the Xiayang Xi , the Yongding He , the Jiuxian He and the Taoxi He, it has several noteworthy tributaries. A few kilometers above its confluence with the Han Jiang, the Mianhuatan reservoir is dammed.
The runoff in the regions that the Ting River drains is between 900 and 1000 millimeters per year, but this with large seasonal fluctuations. At the measuring point near Shanghang , an annual average of 186 cubic meters of water flowed off per second. The highest value to date was determined in 1975 with 331 cubic meters per second, the lowest value with 77.5 cubic meters per second in 1963. Three quarters of the water flows away in the spring and summer months. In June, 22.4% of the total annual volume flows through the measuring point, compared to 2.6% in December.
