The tintinnabulum or cincinabulum is a small bell attached to a support rod in a gold-plated frame and, next to the padiglione , a yellow-red striped cone-shaped silk umbrella, one of the traditional insignia of a minor basilica . The Tintinnabulum can be carried in front of the screen during processions , where it serves to announce the Holy of Holies . During solemn services, the Tintinabulum can be on the earlier epistle side of the altar.
