Tipula varipennis is a two-winged bird fromthe Schnaken family (Tipulidae).

features

The Schnake reaches a body length of 14 to 20 millimeters. Her body is dull gray in color, the head has a narrow, dark vertical stripe. The rostrum , the feelers and the buttons are black, but the rostrum is often frosted with gray. There are four dark brownish longitudinal lines on the mesonotum . The wings are strongly drawn and have black wing veins . The wire R2 does not reach the edge of the wing. The legs are dark, only the thighs ( femora ) are basal yellow-brown.

Way of life and distribution

The animals occur from Spain to Central Asia and colonize moist forests. They are particularly common in the mountains and fly in June and July.
