Tithonos ( Greek  Τιθωνός ) is a son of the Trojan king Laomedon in Greek mythology .

Together with Eos , the goddess of the dawn, he had the son Memnon . Tithonus was so loved by Eos that, in order to please him, she asked the reluctant Zeus to give Tithonos eternal life. This was granted to her. Since she - unlike the angry Zeus - had overlooked at the same time asking for eternal youth for Tithonus, he grew older and older and finally shrank (according to Ovid ) so much that in the end only his screeching, shrill voice remained and he to Cicada was.
