Tjäretönde

Tjäretönde , the tar barrel or Fisketönde (fish barrel), was a measure for liquids in Scandinavia . The measure for fish was also used. There was a difference between Denmark and Norway . In Denmark it was also used to measure tar , hence the name.

  • Norway: 1 Tjäretönde = 1/4 Pibe = 120 Potter (1 P. = 0.9651 liters) = 2 Kander = 4 Pägle = 115.834 liters
    • 1 Pibe = 3 Aam (anchor) = 2 Oxehoveter / Oksehode ( Oxhoft ) about 465 Potter
    • 1 Flask ( bottle ) = 3 Pägle (level) = Kr Potter (jug)
  • Denmark: 1 Tjäretönde = 5844 Parisian cubic inches = 115.93 liters or 115 14/15 liters
