Tjaco van der Weerd

Tjaco van der Weerd (* 1990 in Sri Lanka ) is a Dutch organist .

Van der Weerd was adopted the year he was born. He went blind when he was ten. He started his piano training at the music school in Kampen . In 2002 he switched to the church organ. He studied organ improvisation with Gijsbert Lekkerkerker and Wolfgang Seifen . In 2014 he won the third and in 2015 the first prize for free improvisation at the Nationaal Improvisatieconcours te Elburg . Van der Weerd is organist at the Reformed Congregation in Zwartsluis . Since 2003 he has given concerts in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, England, Switzerland, Romania and Sri Lanka. His improvisations have been documented on several CDs. The recording locations were the Evangelical Lutheran Church in The Hague and the Saint-François Church in Lausanne.
