Tmolos (city)
Tmolos ( Greek Τμῶλος , Latin form Tmolus ) was an ancient city in western Asia Minor landscape Lydia . She was lying in the north of the eponymous mountain range (now the massif of Boz Dağı ), probably 14 km west of Sardis at today's village Gökkaya east of Turgutlu in the province of Manisa in Turkey.
In 17 AD, Tmolos, along with other cities in the Roman province of Asia, was devastated in an earthquake and received reconstruction aid from the Emperor Tiberius . From the second century onwards, as its coins show, the city was named Aureliopolis in honor of the emperor Marcus Aurelius . The titular bishopric of Aureliopolis in Asia of the Roman Catholic Church goes back to the late antique bishopric of the city .
