Toad in the hole

Toad in the hole is a traditional dish in English cuisine . It consists of sausages that are baked in the oven in a batter similar to that of Yorkshire pudding .

To prepare it, the sausages are first fried in a pan and a batter made from flour and baking powder (available in England mixed as self-raising flour ), milk , eggs and fat . The dough is placed in a greased, fireproof pan, the sausages and possibly steamed onion rings are placed in it and everything is baked until the dough has risen and has a golden brown crust.

Toad is served in the hole usually with side dishes such as mashed potatoes and steamed peas and mustard or a dark, bound gravy ( gravy ).
