Tobias Janz
Tobias Janz (* 1974 ) is a German musicologist .
Life
He studied piano , chamber music and music theory at the Lübeck University of Music and musicology and philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin . After obtaining a diploma in piano and music theory and a doctorate in 2005 with a dissertation on the dramaturgy of the orchestral sound in Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen, he worked from 2006 to 2007 as a research assistant in the DFG research project “Musical Self-Reflection. Music on Music in the 19th Century ”at the Musicological Institute of the University of Cologne . From 2007 to 2013 he taught as a junior professor for historical musicology at the University of Hamburg . In the summer semester 2011 he was a professor (C4) at the Humboldt University in Berlin. In July / August 2013 he was Visiting Assistant Professor at National Taiwan University . From 2013 to 2017 he taught as a university professor for historical musicology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . Since October 2017 he has held the professorship for musicology at the University of Bonn .
His main research interests are music of the 17th – 21st centuries. Century, music theory (history and systematics), sound, aesthetics, music philosophy and modern research and music history.
