Tokopedia is an Indonesian online mail order company for consumer-to-consumer retail. It was on February 6th. Founded in 2009 by William Tanuwijaya. In November 2018, the company was valued at $ 7 billion . With an average of around 65 million monthly visitors, the site was the largest Indonesian online shop between July and September 2019 and had a market share of 25%. In Indonesia, Alexa Internet ranked 25th in July 2019 and 626 globally. The company has around 4,700 employees. According to the company, over 7 million dealers and 200 million products are registered on the site. The name comes from the Indonesian word "toko" for shop and "pedia" for encyclopedia .

history

The company was founded on February 6, 2009 by by William Tanuwijaya. Since the company is not making a profit, venture capitalists have had to regularly inject fresh money, including PT Indonusa Dwitama (2009), East Ventures (2010), CyberAgent Ventures (2011), NetPrice (2012), and SoftBank Ventures Korea (2013). In October 2014, Sequoia Capital and Softbank invested $ 100 million in the company. A further $ 147 million was invested in April 2016. Chinese online retailer Alibaba invested $ 1.1 billion in the company in 2017. In 2018, Alibaba and Softbank again invested $ 1.1 billion together.

In May 2020, it was revealed that hackers had stolen around 15 million customer records .
