The Tokudaiji ( Japanese 徳 大寺 家 , Tokudaiji-ke ) were a branch of the Fujiwara, which was derived from Fujiwara no Kinzane (藤原 公 実; 1053-1107). This family was one of the seven Seika.

genealogy

  • Tokudaiji Saneyoshi (徳 大寺 實 義; 1096–1157), son of Kinzane, was the first to bear the name "Tokudaiji". His sister Fujiwara no Tamako (藤原 璋 子) married the Emperor Toba and was the mother of Sutoku and Go-Shirakawa . Because of this relationship, Saneyoshi enjoyed great imperial favor. He held the office of Sadaijin and supported Toba in his fight against the Taira .

The family is related to the Kazan'in . After the Meiji Restoration in 1868, the head of the family was appointed Prince (Marquis).
