Toledo technology

One is as Toledo Engineering damascening similar method called, which originally comes from the Arab countries, it has been applied in the past only for Musketengriffe and as an ornament for daggers, cutlasses, swords and armor. A wire made of a different material is inserted and hammered into a previously manufactured channel. This process creates surfaces that are similar to the inlays known from wood processing .

Another method is coloring (for example, using screen printing ) the base material (originally always iron, later copper because it does not oxidize as quickly as iron). All non-colored areas are reshaped with small styluses and a hammer. The craftsman has a large number of different burins available and can deepen the surface, i.e. cut it out, or even just deform it. Then the metal is gold-plated (24 carat to get a really high gloss level). The paint is then removed and the workpiece is dipped in a chemical. The gold is not attacked, but all other surfaces are blackened. The result is a stark contrast between gold and black.
