Antonelius started his career at IF Brommapojkarna . In 1997 he moved to AIK Solna in the Allsvenskan . Two years later he went to Coventry City in England in the FA Premier League . In 2002 he went to FC København . Due to a serious knee injury, however, he was unable to play a game in Denmark after six months. In September 2003 he officially announced the end of his career.

Antonelius was also a Swedish international . With the national selection, he took part in the European Championship in 2000 and the World Championship in 2002 .

Until 2001 Antonelius played under his maiden name. However, since Gustafsson is one of Sweden's most common surnames and Tomas is a popular first name, he decided to change his name to avoid confusion. He chose the name his sister has had since their wedding.
