Tomasi Kulimoetoke II (born July 26, 1918 in Mata-Utu , Uvea ; † May 7, 2007 ibid) was the 50th king of Uvea , a traditional kingdom in the French overseas territory of Wallis and Futuna .

Life

He became king on March 12, 1959, after a council of ministers had ruled for over six months. After his grandson, drunk, killed a pedestrian behind the wheel in 2005 and sought refuge in the royal palace, speculation was raised about the king's impeachment. Reformers wanted to use Sosefo Mautamakia to succeed Tomasi Kulimoetoke. After a few uprisings, however, this coronation was canceled. The king remained in office and was recognized as such by France . Hundreds of roadblocks loyal to the King had erected and demonstrated during the crisis. The grandson was later arrested by the French police.

The king advocated the dismissal of Wallis and Futuna to independence.

Tomasi Kulimoetoke II died after 48 years of reign in his residence in Uvea at the age of 88. His health was recently badly damaged. He was succeeded by Kapeliele Faupala .
