Tomasz Strzembosz

Tomasz Strzembosz (born September 11, 1930 in Warsaw ; † October 16, 2004 there ) was a Polish historian.

Life

In the People's Republic of Poland , Strzembosz was one of the few historians who did not bow to state doctrine. Already observed by the Ministry of Public Security in the 1950s , he was unable to obtain his master's degree in history. He did not receive this until 1959. His habilitation from 1982 was not recognized until 1989. He mainly dealt with the Polish underground state , in particular with the Akcja Główki and the partisans during the Soviet occupation of eastern Poland . In 1991 he became an associate professor and then full professor at the Polish Academy of Sciences in the Third Polish Republic . He received a teaching position at the Catholic University of Lublin . In 1997 he retired. Patriotic motives are ascribed to his historiography.
