Tombo Island ( French Île Tombo ) is a small island off the coast of Guinea , around four kilometers from the Îles de Los .

The island, which is now connected to the Kaloum peninsula , came under French rule through a treaty with King Dubréka on January 20, 1880. The purchase of the island was intended to limit the influence of the British Kingdom in the region. In 1885 the German Empire also asserted claims to the strategically located island, but waived Tombo in exchange for an area on the border of Togo and the Kingdom of Dahomey . The island officially became French territory on June 8, 1889.

The center of the Guinean capital Conakry is located on the island .
