Tomodachi Life ( Japanese ト モ ダ チ コ レ ク シ ョ ン 新 生活 Tomodachi Korekushon [= Collection]: Shin Seikatsu , dt. "Friends collection: New life") is a life simulation . It was developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS ; in Japan alone, the previous version , the Tomodachi Collection, is also available for the Nintendo DS . Tomodachi Life was released in Japan on April 18, 2013, in North America and Europe on June 6, 2014, and in Australia on June 7, 2014. It was the top-selling game in Japan for the week following its release date. Over 400,000 units have been sold.

Gameplay

The game takes place on an island named by the player and owned by the player. At the beginning of the island there is a fountain of happiness, a town hall and an apartment. Your own Miis live in the apartment and in the town hall you can invite your own Miis or - via QR codes - foreign or prominent Miis. Up to 100 miis can live there. You can give your Miis votes and customize the personality of your Miis. In Tomodachi Life the Miis use speech bubbles to alert the player that they want to eat something, want to make friends, want to change outfits, etc. In order to fulfill these wishes, the player has to eat and wear clothes in shops like a supermarket to buy. The Miis reward the player with gifts or money for fulfilling wishes. Every day the Miis donate money for the island at the Glücksbrunnen, which the player can pick up there.

The residents occasionally invite the player to play with them. In these games he can win more gifts. For each Mii there is a display which shows the player favorite food and items as well as the relationships with other Miis. Two Miis can fall in love, get married and have children. The Miis can also meet without the player's influence or organize other events which the player can then watch.

development

In May 2014 a playable demo version of the game was distributed. You could later upgrade from the demo version to the full version. The game also includes two demo versions that can be left to others.

In May 2013, Western media reported that its predecessor, the Tomodachi Collection , allowed same-sex relationships. But Nintendo stated in April 2014 that this had never been possible.

criticism

Tomodachi Life has received mostly positive reviews. IGN gave the game a score of 8.4. IGN called it: "A surprising and fun game for the whole family". Polygon gave Tomodachi Life 7.5 out of 10 points: “It has its flaws, but its charms cannot be denied.” Gamesradar gave the game 4 out of 5 stars and praised the humor and relaxed gaming of Tomodachi Life.
