Tonkünstlerverband

Tonkünstlerverband (in Austria and Switzerland also: Tonkünstlerverein ) is the name of an association-like structure that represents the interests of all music professions in politics and the public on a regional, national or national level. Its members are music teachers , interpreters , composers , musicologists , specialist journalists, music dealers and music publishers. The umbrella organization of the German Association of Musicians (DTKV) currently has around 7,000 members in 16 regional associations, which in turn consist of several regional associations.

A first Tonkünstlerverband was founded in 1844 with the "Berliner Tonkünstler-Verein" . Only three years later, Franz Liszt , Hans von Bülow and Peter Cornelius founded an all-German association of musicians. The association originally served to represent freelance musicians who had to fight for their rights and the recognition of their work. He implemented advantages in old-age provision for his members, fought for, together with other institutions, as a special improvement, the artists' social security fund and thus the relief of the freelancer for the employer's share in health and pension insurance as well as advantages in other types of insurance, which are expensive for the freelancer, but are very important. After the establishment of the public music schools , the membership was divided into employed music educators and freelancers, with the result that the work of the association no longer primarily focused on the problems of the freelance workers.

In Switzerland, the Swiss Tonkünstlerverein (STV) merged with the Swiss Music Syndicate and Musikschaffenden Schweiz to form Sonart - Musikschaffende Schweiz .
