The association stood up for contemporary music , represented professional composers, interpreters, conductors, improvising musicians, musicologists and music directors and presented the issues of new music to the public, to the political authorities and generally within the framework of cultural policy and especially in the fields of music theory and music journalism.

Swiss music syndicate

The Swiss Music Syndicate (SMS) , founded in 1975, was created in 1997 through the merger of the Association of Improvising Musicians of Switzerland (VIMS) and the Musicians Cooperative Switzerland (MKS) . The founding members included the singer Franziska Baumann , the pianist Christoph Baumann , the saxophonist Jürg Solothurnmann , the pianist Michel Wintsch , Romano Nardelli from the Swiss National Sound Archives and the drummer Lucas Niggli .
