The Daovantien karst rat ( Tonkinomys daovantieni ) is a rodent from the group of old world mice (Murinae). It was described in 2006 and named after the Tonkin region.

The fur of the Daovantien karst rat is dark gray in color and slightly prickly on the back, and the belly is also dark gray. The tail is short and thick.

These rodents live in Vietnam's L Provinzng Sơn province , and they may also be found in neighboring regions of China . Their habitat is a karstified limestone area covered with trees. They are predominantly nocturnal, but can sometimes also be observed during the day. Their diet consists partly of insects .

The only threat of this type is probably the mining of the limestone, but there are no more detailed information on the degree of danger. The IUCN lists the species under “too little data available” ( data deficient ).
